Laro tayo ng tulug-tulugan! |
Christmas break is upon us which only means one thing for Brianna and I: Afternoon naps. This is one of the few things Brianna and I disagree on at this point of our lives. I don't know how to make her sleep when all she wants to do is play with our neighbors. I usually lose my cool when we've been lying on the bed for an hour and she still hasn't slept a wink.
My question for today is this:
How do you deal with afternoon naps with your kids?
There are some parents who don't make their children take a nap in their afternoon while some goes through a very stressful ritual every afternoon with their kids. What's you take on this topic? Do you have some tips on how to do it or some advise to 'strict' parents who enforces this to their kids like some kind of law in their homes?
For me, I ask her to take an afternoon nap as often as possible but whenever we're out, I just let her sleep earlier during nighttime. But, as I've mentioned, once a month, I lose my cool if she takes too long to sleep (PMS y'all). On a normal day, though, I'm pretty cool. :p
How old na is your child? Some kasi stop sleeping na at a certain age. Regular naps pa naman kami until now; rare pa ang fighting haha
ReplyDeleteShe's 3 years old now. :) I wanted sana to instill the discipline sa kanya. Hehe.
DeleteSo far yung baby ko lagi may afternoon nap, now I don't know what to do pag nasa ganyan age na si Rhian, baka mag away rin kami. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteSana naman hindi. :)
DeleteWhen my daughter was around 2-3 years old I remember her being too active for an afternoon nap too so I let her be and then she gets tired and sleepy by 4-5PM but I won't let her sleep or else we'll have an active toddler till midnight. What I did was induce sleep- make the room darker, soothing music, no active play or activities an hour before nap time, and I pretend to sleep too. hehehe.
ReplyDeleteIt will also help if you explain to her why nap time is important. Does she want to grow up short? Does she want to look like a zombie because she has eyebags, etc stuff like that. Also, my line " Mom's tired, Babe...can we lie down and nap for a bit?" worked too!
Wow! Thank you for the tips, Mommy Renz! Will definitely try everything you suggested! :)
DeleteMy daughter is two and I don't have any problems letting her take her nap ; ) I guess I am just lucky ; p I don't know what will happen when she reaches your daughter's age though.

Hope you won't have any problems with letting her take naps by then, too. :)
DeleteTell her you'll give her a treat if she takes her afternoon nap :) - edel
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tip, Mommy! :)
DeleteI stopped trying making my boys take afternoon naps when they started schooling (4-5 year old), but we agreed to a lights out / sleep time at 7pm. Sometimes when they are really tired they would take a nap, but that it very seldom.
ReplyDeleteI still live with my parents so the 7pm lights out curfew has been a point of argument that I had to really, really, really ask my daughter to sleep in the afternoon.
DeleteTry to play relaxing music mommy. Nagwo work sa'min yan ng anak ko :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mommy Levy. Will definitely try this. :)
DeleteI don't really make Ykaie take afternoon naps because when she does, she sleeps really late at night.
ReplyDeleteI guess some kids really do that. Good thing di ganyan si Brianna. :)
DeleteMy daughter, who's also 3yrs old, is just too active in the afternoon so an afternoon nap is impossible. But whenever we need to ride the car, she automatically goes to sleep. Hehe
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Si Brianna din ganun. :)
DeleteThat's one of my biggest problems with my girls, especially my eldest. With my youngest kasi, she still has naptime, though I tell the yaya to let her sleep mga past 1pm so she'll be awake by 4. With my eldest naman, I stopped trying. The more I force her to sleep, the more she won't. So what I do, I just remove all the toys, turn on the TV then makakatulog na sya agad :))
ReplyDeleteThis works even in the afternoon? :)
